ENHANCING STUDENTS' WRITING PROFICIENCY THROUGH EXTENDED WRITING PROJECTS

English language proficiency is crucial in the global context as it serves a medium to share ideas and information across nations. Recognizing significance of an international language, government Indonesia has mandated education from elementary school university. Writing one essential skills that students must master, allowing them express their feelings, opinions, thoughts effectively. However, study finds many lack interest face challenges when comes writing. They struggle generate ideas, choose appropriate topics, organize into coherent sentences. To address this issue, researcher explores implementation Extended Project (EWP) method potential solution improve students' writing proficiency. The research employs pre-experimental with one-group pretest-posttest design assess effectiveness EWP method. conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Polewali during 2016/2017 academic year, 24 tenth-grade classes chosen sample through cluster random sampling. Throughout research, guides proposing own topics or selecting provided list, creating preliminary outlines, clustering listing before organizing paragraphs. emphasizes revision editing, encouraging make multiple drafts take responsibility for improving linguistic correctness. results demonstrate significant improvement ability after application Notably, improvements are observed content, organization, vocabulary, use, mechanics.
